PLEASE BE ADVISED: All Myrtle Beach State Park trails will be closed from November through January as we work on trail maintenance and construction. We apologize for the inconvenience as we work to improve our trails. Please be aware that parking is first-come, first-served and is LIMITED. Shelter guests are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to arrive outside peak hours (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.), especially on weekends and holidays in the summer. The park is extremely busy during this time and may reach normal capacities and close for a period of time. Should you forget something, you may want to check our retail stores before leaving the park, as the wait to re-enter could be extensive, and you could be turned away if the park is at capacity.

Type: Hiking Trail

Difficulty: Easy

From the parking area for the Nature/Activity Centers, cross the road and begin an easy walk on the Sculptured Oak Trail to experience what the woodlands of the Grand Strand used to look like. You will pass through a forest of oaks, wax myrtles, hollies, poplars, and magnolias, which is the home of many species birds, reptiles and amphibians.

You can go straight and visit an overlook at a pond (which is rain dependent), or turn left toward the beach. After a short walk you will come to a branch and the Yaupon Trail is on the right. Both the Sculptured Oak and Yaupon trails lead to the beach, which is accessible by boardwalks. If you are looking for a longer walk you can go out on one, cross a parking area, and return on the other.
