Counties in this area are in the permanent quarantine zone for all ash, olive and white fringe tree materials. To protect our forests, please do not bring any materials from these trees, including firewood, into Oregon State Parks. This will help slow the spread of the emerald ash borer, a highly invasive and destructive insect that threatens to wipe out all of Oregon’s ash trees. Help protect our forests by following these firewood tips: • Buy firewood local to your campsite: Choose firewood harvested within 10 miles of your destination or buy certified heat-treated firewood. • Avoid transporting restricted wood: Do not bring ash, olive, or white fringe tree materials into any Oregon State Park even if it’s within the same quarantine area. When in doubt about the tree species, leave it out. Learn more about the quarantine and emerald ash borer.

Things to do
Fishing
Can I go fishing at the mill? Yes. Both the mill race (in front of the mill) and the tail race and Calapooia River (behind the mill) are open to fishing. All ODFW rules and regulations apply. The banks of the mill race make a good place to practice fly casting.
A state fishing license is usually required.

Rules and permits
May I take photos inside? Yes. The rich and varied textures inside the mill are a photographers dream and the patina of 150 years of hard work draws many photographers. Flash photography and tripods are ok but a reminder to not obstruct the passage of other visitors and to pay attention to the safety barriers and ropes. May I set up an easel for painting? Yes. We often have artists set up at various places on the grounds capturing their view of the mill on a canvas. We have no restrictions for artists wishing to paint pictures of the mill other than the usual restrictions that apply to everyone regarding access to dangerous areas. If you have a question about access to an off-limits area feel free to call or find a staff member on site to help you.
