Work is beginning for the Thompson Chain of Lakes State Park Fuels Reduction Project, a thinning effort aimed at reducing hazardous fuels in the wildland urban interface. Foresters are on site at Thompson Chain of Lakes State Park to begin tree removal. The contractor will move from unit to unit, and signs will be posted for current logging activity. The project is scheduled to continue throughout the winter. The project underwent a full public review process, resulting in a formal decision notice issued in July. The Thompson Chain of Lakes State Park Fuels Reduction Project aims to: ? Reduce hazardous fuels that could result in severe fire ? Maintain and promote public safety, aesthetics, and visual screening within developed areas of the park ? Maintain and promote a mosaic of cover and forage production for big game
