Accessibility
This symbols indicates that the area is designated for track chair use. Birding Visitors of all abilities can enjoy birding along the Braille Trail. This trail has information and signage, mostly manageable surfaces, rest areas, and many other ADA considerations. To find additional locations that are accessible, visit Birdability to view their accessible birding trails maps. Picnic Area Four handicap parking spaces provide easy access to an information kiosk containing literature and exhibits of the park's history. Braille text is provided. The kiosk sits on a slight slope. A paved path leads past a water fountain to an accessible vault and flush toilets. One individual and one group picnic site, located among the trees, have been modified with pavement and extended-end tables. The playground is accessible with a surfacing of Kiddie Mulch. Braille Trail The path through the site is asphalt and has varying slopes and conditions. The most excessive slopes are at 9.3% for 37 feet and 10.2% for 20 feet. At some points, the trail pinches down to 28 inches wide, due to the rock formations. Along the trail are interpretive stations with Braille text. Carpet patches followed by a hand-rope mark stations and changes in the pathway. Most of the 1-mile trail is shady, and places are provided for rest. To accommodate visitors with limited mobility, the park offers an electronic off-road track chair that can be used on portions of Braille Trail. The track chair is available for anyone with a mobility issue, free of charge. The chair can be reserved by calling the park 48 hours in advance. For more information about the track chair, including safety guidelines, reservation details, and a map of where the chair can be used, click here. Engine House Ruins Trail Accessed from Braille Trail, this level trail at the east entrance is paved for approximately 430 feet to the ruins of an old engine house. At the engine house or at the west entrance to the trail, is a wide path, consisting largely of dirt, that leads the visitor around the back side of the old quarry and over natural terrain. To accommodate visitors with limited mobility, the park offers an electronic off-road track chair that can be used on a short spur of Engine House Ruins Trail. The track chair is available for anyone with a mobility issue, free of charge. The chair can be reserved by calling the park 48 hours in advance. For more information about the track chair, including safety guidelines, reservation details, and a map of where the chair can be used, click here.
